Understanding the Hebraic roots of Christianity is an important step in a Christian’s relationship with Christ.  Jesus Christ, also called Yeshua in Hebrew, was a Jew and He followed the teaching and instruction of the Torah.

What is an Omer?
The Omer is an ancient Israelite unit of measure used in the era of the Temple in Jerusalem for grains and dry commodities. In Biblical times, on the second day of Passover, it was a mitzvah (commandment) to bring barley the size of an omer to the Temple as an offering. Then fifty days later, on Shav’uot, it was a mitzvah to bring the first offering of the new wheat harvest.

When Do We Count the Omer? The counting of the Omer begins on the second night of Pesach.  The Omer is counted each evening after sundown.  The counting is intended to remind us of the link between Passover, which commemorates the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt, and Shavuot which commemorates the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai.
